Introduction
A social issue encompasses any matter that reduces the capacity of the society to function optimally. However, not all impediments to the life of the society are elevated to the category of social issues. Notably, there are different features that qualify a situation to be considered a social issue. Firstly, the public must acknowledge the situation as an impediment in their day-to-day lives. The second characteristic is if the situation contravenes the norms and values that are acceptable in society.
Nonetheless, since the interpretation of values varies from person-to-person, the contradiction is validated if the situation concerns a significant portion of the population. Finally, the case can be corrected through a united effort by the community members, using the community resources. This paper seeks to construct an argumentative outline on the social issue of opioid epidemic. Thus, it advances the argument that the narrative of over-prescription as the cause of the opioid epidemic that in turn causes persistent fatalities and complications is a false narrative that the masses and policymakers should discard.
