The importance of the materials industry to the Australian economy cannot be overemphasized. The industry contributes a great deal to the economic development of the country. The sector produces concrete, quarry, and cement and as such is very integral as far as construction of buildings and other infrastructural projects are concerned. For the budget year 2015-2016, the sector recorded an output of $114.9 billion. The figure represents 6.9% of the country’s GDP and 1.9% share of all sectors of the Australian economy. A deep analysis of the annual report also reveals that the industry directly and or indirectly created about 200,000 jobs for the people (Heard, 2017, p. 16). The job creation is a significant portion of the total number of jobs created in Australia from the various sectors. Newcrest mining Limited (NCM) and OZL are two of the major players in the materials industry in Australia. NCM has its presence spread out in a good number of countries and it’s mainly involved in gold mining activities. Similarly, OZL’s major activities revolve around copper mining and it’s a major player in the industry. It’s imperative to note that both Companies are listed in the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).

On the other hand, just like the materials industry, the transport sector plays a pivotal role in the economic growth and development of any country. The industry facilitates the movement of goods and services as well as people from one point to another. The transport sector includes sea, road, air, rail, and warehousing and postal services (Hayashi, 2013, p. 37). As per the year 2016, the sector contributed 22% of the total jobs in Australia and 16% of the total GDP of the country (Mofijur, 2016, p. 269). Transcontinental- Logistics (TCL) and Aurison Company (commonly referred to as AZJ) are two of the major Companies which make sure that the transport sector in Australia ticks. Whereas AZJ is involved in rail services, TCL’s operations are concentrated in road management as well as development. Shares of both Companies are also traded the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).
