My potential dissertation topic:
I want to focus on how psychology can help successful leadership in organizations and corporations and on why psychology is so important in leadership. I have found that organization leaders who understand psychology have high levels of emotional intelligence and grasp diverse personalities, so they know how to talk to employees in different ways and make everyone in their organizations happy. Knowledge of psychology gives leaders many ideas and ways to motivate their employees and inspire their creativity.
I plan to investigate how emotional intelligence relates to psychology and how can leaders have and use high levels of emotional intelligence to manage their organizations and corporations? Then, I plan to explore how knowledge of psychology can be used in organizational leadership and help leaders manage their organizations and corporations?
Second, read three articles that I searched online which are:
1.    Reference: Cheang, P. P. (2011). Learning about leadership -- A personal account. Medical Teacher, 33(6), 491-493.
Abstract Purpose: A personal account of learning about leadership. This artile introduces the theory of power and influence, and aimed to report especially the personal reflection, emotional intelligence and learning about oneself that occurred on the way. Approach: Reading, group discussion and active reflection. Thoughts, reflections and learning were recorded regularly. Practical implications: The concept of leadership, influence tactics and emotional intelligence all have implications in workplace relationship management and ultimately leadership qualities. The issues discussed serves as food for thought for others. Originality: This is a genuine and very personal learning experience.
2.    Reference: Ingram, J., & Cangemi, J. (2012). EMOTIONS, EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND LEADERSHIP: A BRIEF, PRAGMATIC PERSPECTIVE. Education, 132(4), 771-778.
Abstract: When people think of emotions, usually they think of different states of being, such as happiness, sadness, or anger However, emotions generate very powerful chemicals that can create positive feelings, such as motivation and enthusiasm, or they can create more negative responses, such as offending and even attacking others. When an emotionally charged situation occurs, understanding the process taking place then and there can help leaders become more objective decision-makers. Bradberry and Greaves (2009) posited: The daily challenge of dealing effectively with emotions is critical... because our brains are hard-wired to give emotions the upper hand... everything you see, smell, hear, taste and touch travels through your body in the form of electric signals. These signals pass from cell to cell until they reach...the place where rational, logical thinking takes place. This journey ensures you experience things emotionally before your reason can kick into gear (authors' emphasis) (p. 6).
3.    Reference: RUGGIERI, S., & ABBATE, C. S. (2013). LEADERSHIP STYLE, SELF-SACRIFICE, AND TEAM IDENTIFICATION. Social Behavior & Personality: An International Journal, 41(7), 1171-1178.
Abstract: Leadership is a group feature that directly impacts on team identification. Effective leaders are especially capable of fostering group cohesiveness and promoting efficacy in goal attainment. We assessed the relationship between transactional and transformational leadership style, team identification, and leader self-sacrifice. Participants were 186 call center employees who were headed by a leader who operated with either a transactional or a transformational leadership style. The employees reported their level of team identification and leader self-sacrifice. Results show how, in either the transactional or transformational leadership condition, levels of leadership and self-sacrifice were related to team identification, as well as the interaction effect between transactional leadership level and leader self-sacrifice. Our findings demonstrate how different leadership styles play a diverse role in this relationship.
