Diversity plays a key role in ensuring consistency, fairness, and acceptability in today’s business world. Whether it is a small business or a multinational firm, diversity has come to be seen as an important aspect of business operation. Any divergence from the spirit of inclusiveness which springs from diversity has been the subject of pundits and has adversely affected the performance of any organization. Further, even when it is not used as a publicity tool, diversity is a crucial element on the business performance as it determines the competitiveness, and continuity of the business. It is for this reason that Walmart, arguably the largest employer in the world, has adopted different initiatives to increase diversity in its operations. This paper delves into the different initiatives that Walmart has used in increasing diversity, and their effectiveness basing on the best diversity tools and standards.
