SHORT ESSAY GUIDELINES:
I. FORMATTING
1. The answers need to be 2 pages minimum (and 4 paragraphs minimum), TYPED in 12-
point font (Times New Roman), double-spaced, with one-inch margins.
2. Type out the number and the question in its entirety at the top of your page. Type out
the question in single-spaced lines. Then proceed to answer.
3. Each short essay should be typed on a separate sheet of paper. Please, insert the page
numbers for each of your short essays.
4. You can print out each of the short essays as double-sided.
5. Both of the short essays should be STAPLED together.
6. Each sheet of paper with your answers needs to have your first and last name and
“Film Studies 1 (2259) Midterm Exam Spring 2018” on the top of your page.
II. CONTENT
7. Your answers should be minimum four (4) thoughtfully written paragraphs. Draw upon
lecture, discussion, screenings, and readings. Be sure to correctly use specific film studies
terminology.
8. Every answer should include a brief description of the film in general (1-2 sentences
maximum) as well as discussion of specific scenes, sequences, and moments from the films
to elucidate your points. The more detailed your answers, the more points you will receive.
