The book of handmaid’s tale is a story about how Gilead rose after being formed by military men who had executed a successful coup which led to the shooting of the President as well as the members of the Congress. The participants of the coup would, later on, disregard the constitution as well as the form of government which the country was using. Instead, a Christian-based form of government was adopted. The story’s narrator was in a gym which had become very old. The gym was within a school locality. Here she is with other women. She recounts many stories about the life in the gym. This paper delves into the book by tackling some of the pertinent issues.
From the reading, we clearly see that both Moira and Offred adopt various techniques for dealing with their new situations. They have no option but to accept their current situation and devise mechanisms of dealing with it. To begin with, Moira is rebellious and defiant. This is seen when she disobeys the orders given by Gilead. At one instance she decides to disobey Gilead by going to labor at the Jezebel’s place. This is a clear indication of rebellion. Disobedience is also seen when she attempts to escape. This was the escape from the Red Center. This is not the first time that Moira is rebelling. Initially, she had openly defied with the principles of Gilead long before she was recruited by the newspaper.
