Question One:

Consider the European conquest of the Americas from first contact in 1492 to 1650. How were European conquistadores able to successfully subdue and conquer the much larger Native-American populations that they encountered? What technologies, tactics, and factors facilitated their conquests?

It is 1587. You are Sir John Strangeways, an English gentleman whose fortunes and estate have recently fallen on hard times. You hope to improve your personal and economic situation by convincing Queen Elizabeth I to support your efforts to plant a colony in the New World. Using all relevant materials from lectures, discussion, and the text, convince her why she should back your colonization project.
