1) Identify and thoroughly explain with documentation one (1) program or training available to law enforcement, corrections or probation officers that improves their safety when working with youth.  The chosen training or program must involve either:

a) recent developments in neuroscience, or

b) mental health practices.

“Thoroughly explain” means a detailed explanation of the purpose of the training/program, the details of how it operates and what results are expected and what research on the program has shown.  Provide data where available.

You may not write about a program evaluated in any of the four articles posted in this module.  This means you should review ALL the articles and make sure you do not write about any program evaluated in them.  You must conduct independent research to find other programs that improve officer and youth safety.  You may want to search at http://www.ojjdp.gov/mpg/.  Remember, evidence-based programs have been evaluated and the results were likely published.  Present that information.

2) Specifically explain in one paragraph how our university’s core value of RESPECT applies to the contents of the textbook.  Include a citation & page number. Your response should go beyond the obvious and be written at a graduate level. Your answer must be no less than 1500 words and you must use at least three authoritative sources to support your position. NOTE:  the use of only three (3) authoritative sources demonstrates a minimum level of acceptable graduate level work and is not exemplary or necessarily proficient. Your text is NOT an authoritative source.  All sources must be properly cited using the APA style.

YOU MUST ALSO ADD THE URL (Uniform Resource Locator) OR the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) to the end of EVERY APA reference found on the internet.

Written assignments must be scholarly, not be written in the first person tense and must follow the current American Psychological Association (APA) format and style (e.g., double-spaced, indents, etc.) and include the following: cover page, abstract, discussion, conclusion, and references.
