WRITING 100 points

In at least 500 words, you will write about a pathological condition that affects one of the following three topics.

 Male reproductive system, Female reproductive system or Pregnancy and development. Sample topics can be found at the end of this document. Pick one of your choice.

You must include the following 1-5. One paragraph per section. 

1.) Define/Describe the condition.  The opening paragraph of the paper must include a concise statement of "normal" (homeostasis) for this portion/function of the human body, and how homeostasis is altered by this disease. At least one textbook source must be cited for this portion.

2.) Etiology (What is the cause of the disease? Or is it unknown?)

3.) Signs and symptoms (How would someone with this condition present?)

4.) Treatment options (medical and alternative)

5.) Prognosis (What is the success rate or chance of survival?  Is full recovery possible with no residual signs or symptoms? Does recovery include permanent damage? Is the disorder terminal? Be sure to explain.)

Writing topic requirements:

1.) Your essay should be a minimum of 500 words.   Topic MUST be pre-approved by your instructor.

2.) Your essay should be prepared using Microsoft Word or in Rich Text Format, double-spaced, Times New Roman or Arial font size 11-12.  Spelling and grammar checks should be used.  You should also carefully proofread your letter to find errors that the software will not correct. If you do not have a home computer or a program that will produce the correct format, computers with Microsoft Word are available in the Cyber Lab or the Learning Lab. Most public libraries also have computers with a word processing program that will produce the required format.

3.) Your essay should be prepared in paragraph form. The paper should have an Introduction that includes a topic sentence and paragraphs that elaborate different points in support of the topic. Your paper should also have a concluding paragraph that summarizes the topic. Be sure that you address all five major questions as above.

4.) At least 3 references, one of which is a basic textbook (see above). You may also use textbooks from other fields of study, if applicable (nursing, ultrasound, sleep medicine, etc). References must be SCIENTIFIC (ex] not joecool.com or conspiracytheory.net), from non-commercial sources.

5.) If you use ideas or words from your textbook, be sure to provide the appropriate citation to avoid plagiarism. MLA format should be used to cite references within the text and on the Works Cited page. It is not necessary to use references other than the textbook for this assignment. If you are not sure what constitutes plagiarism, there is link on the LSC homepage. 

6.) Any obvious cheating or plagiarism meant to mislead me will result in a failing grade for the assignment, an academic dishonesty sanction and the possibility of failing the course.
