The development of effective and high performance teams is a task that involves the collaboration of the team leaders and their team members. Work teams are characterized with a diversity of individuals who different ideas and therefore, it is important to take note of the various characteristics of individuals in the team. Team behaviors are critical thus in determining the success or failure of the team in becoming a high performance team (Chapter 10, 198). The essential behaviors in this regard with reference to team leaders and team members include effective communication. Communication is an important factor in work teams as it is the behavior that gets things to move forward. With effective communication between the team leader and the team members, work team is capable of achieving high performance.
Team leaders and team members are also creative in their activities. The creativity enables them to come up with new ideas that are important in attaining their target of high performance. Creativity enables the team to stand out uniquely against any competition and therefore, it is a behavior that is important. In their creativity, the team member and leaders display behaviors of critical thinking which is significant in the process of problem solving (DeChurch, & Mesmer-Magnus, 2010). Problem solving behaviors are important as they are used to solve not only matters that are associated with the activity of the team such as the assigned tasks but also with regard to the relationships between tem members as well as with the team leader (Chapter 11, 220). High performance teams are achieved through the full collaboration of the members of a team. Effective and efficient communication primarily sets the platform for the members to interact and successfully achieve their goals.
