Description

Instructions ( this needs to be a powerpoint) You were invited to conduct an in-service on Managerial Epidemiology and Decision Making in Healthcare to newly hired employees. Please develop 3-5 minutes educational power point presentation offering the trainees insight on: 1. Why they need to know about Managerial Epidemiology (offer minimum one real-life example) 2. What type of data and studies they should be familiar with in order to be successful at their jobs (offer minimum one example of a study design and the data that will be collected; explain how this information is applicable to the managerial functions) 3. Create a short managerial issue case  (this is just an example but do not use this) (for example, week 4 discussion activity: Your faculty (the hospital you work for  Board of Directors' representative) is interested in developing a cardiac care unit. The Board believes offering specialized care for patient's with cardiac diseases will meet an unmet need in the community but want to be sure they are making the right decision. You are directed to identify the current and future need for cardiac services based on the community population characteristics and current use of cardiac services at your hospital.) and explain how the trainees will develop good decisions to solve it: -List all types of evidence they will need to collect, explain why; -Name the epidemiological data, studies, and metrics the trainees will need to support the decision-making process, explain why.  -Explain the decision-making process the trainees will need to apply to this case.  4. List your own decisions and solutions for the case.

Subject: Cardiac Current and Future needs in Bowie Maryland

Greetings,

What has become apparent through this need’s assessment process is that there is no one right way to provide specialty cardiac care. Evidence suggests that primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (pPCI), when it can be delivered under very specific conditions and received within 120 minutes of the onset of symptoms may reduce mortality. The appropriateness of interventional cardiac interventions has been a major topic of investigation around the world, in part driven by the volumes and cost of PCI. This has led some to conclude that there will always be inadequate evidence, disagreement among experts, and new research rendering current knowledge obsolete, which makes it difficult to assess the appropriateness of implementation in new settings based on patient outcome evidence. International Cardiac Services (2018).

The needs assessment focused on patient perspectives, clinician perspectives, an examination of variation in patient outcomes (mortality and morbidity) across the Bowie area.

Current Needs

  • Increase accessibility for everyone in this community. Every patient should be able to gain access to health service despite their race, religion, or status
  • Enhance transitions of care and follow up care particularly for those already suffering for any cardiac disease
  • Be more responsive and reach out to the needs of everyone in the community and not just to those closest to the facilities
  • Create more awareness of the disease to encourage people to perform regular checked to determine their present health condition. International Cardiac Services (2018).

Future Needs

  • Be mindful that population growth occurring in the community. This will require more healthcare professionals and equipment’s
  • Build capacity for more specialized health care (including interventional cardiac labs) to bring care closer to the patient and reduce travel
  • Build capacity for more specialized health care to increase confidence in health service quality in these centers.
  • Provide more equitable access to the currently accepted standard of care (primary PCI) closer to home.
  •  Enhance the quality of cardiac care in the facility and local confidence in care quality.
  • Make it easier to recruit or retain cardiologists by offering cardiac interventional services at regional sites. International Cardiac Services (2018).
  •  Enhance cardiac care capacity to raise the standard of care for all patients and support local clinical consultative services.

The improvement of the above aspects will be able to meet the population need of this area. Below are some recommendations in order to meet up with the needs of this community

  • A strong foundation of cardiac care will positively impact outcomes by reducing the number of cardiac events; reducing events will also reduce mortality rates.
  • There is a need to enhance transitions of care, regardless of the option chosen.

Sincerely,
