New Roman. Do not use quotes from any readings. Use a parenthetical citation (name of author
year: page number – e.g. Roseberry 1996:62) for any information that you borrow from the book
or class readings. Cover page should include your name, title of the book, and course
information. Please number the pages. DO NOT USE INTERNET SOURCES.
Your essay should include an introductory paragraph (topic, methodology, problem, thesis, and
premises), the evidence presented, the conclusions of the author(s), and your critique. The
conclusion of the essay must highlight the importance and contribution of the book to
interactions of Western and non-Western societies.

Some questions to consider:
1. What are the subjects covered? How can you relate these subjects to class discussions and
readings?
2. What are the chief or main points of the author?
3. What are the major conclusions of the author?
4. Are the main points or the conclusions valid? Do you agree with the author? If you do not
agree, state why.
