Profiling CEOs and/or CTOs who Drive Disruptive Innovation in Co-Creation as opposed to Incremental Innovation in Isolation

The problem: CEOs and CTOs are increasingly driven by excel sheets that are mainly monitoring of short-term performance. Taking risk to invest in a breakthrough with disruptive potential is not incentivized. The result is a full focus on incremental innovation pursued in isolation – or possibly in one-way collaboration with controlled suppliers.

The challenge: In spite of the increasingly myopic KPIs, there are some CEOs and CTOs who dare to take the risk to pursue disruptive innovation in co-creation with trusted partners.

The questions: Who are these CEOs and CTOs? By what principles do they seem to act? How do they motivate others to make the impossible possible by engaging in co-creation with partners they dare to trust?
The Assignment: Select one CEO or CTO who dared to pursue disruptive innovation in co-creation with trusted partners. Describe her/him and how (s)he acted to inspire and catalyze co-creation and thereby managed to close the gap between taking risk in setting ambitious targets and managing expectations to reach the targets.

This assignment must not exceed one (1) page, single-spaced, 11 point font of text. It can have a second page for references in Harvard-style.  It has to provide clearly printed information in three sections:

Paragraph 1:  Select one CEO or CTO who dared to pursue disruptive innovation in co-creation with trusted partners. Provide 2-3 fact-based arguments why you selected this person.

Paragraph 2:  Describe her/him and how (s)he acted to inspire and catalyze co-creation and thereby managed to close the gap between taking risk in setting ambitious targets and managing expectations to reach the targets.

Paragraph 3:  Describe the outcome by linking the cause (from paragraph 2) to a clear effect in terms of Disrupting Innovation.

References:  Your main-text is one page in total, but you can add one page with references in Harvard-style – with a focus on the following:

Make at least three references to the course literature
Find and refer to at least one relevant reference beyond the course literature
Add and use at least one relevant reference from the web

Be ready to discuss your selected CEO/CTO in Class and, thereby, co-create deeper understanding of how to inspire and catalyze co-creation of disruptive innovation.
