Gendered Media Messages
The music videos played on Music Television (MTV) is a current hybrid of rock music and picture metaphors. MTV’s primary target is the teenager’s especially young teenagers in high school institutions and college students. To get more attention from the teenagers which is its primary target audience, MTV has eliminated adults from the TV programs. The music videos immerse the teenagers into the music of young adults, their style, and reality. The TV educates the present teenage culture with the changing society of today ( Boltz, 2013). MTV devotes its entire programming to meet the interests of the public demographic. The contemporary teenage culture focuses their life agendas around the mass media hence being the main target. The content of the music videos is mainly on visual abstraction, crime, violence, dance, and sex. The MTV sensual and ferocious content is characterized by insinuation and suggestiveness probably paralleling the adolescent target audience demand of MTV.
