September 2006 remains historical in Western Mexico as it marked the entry of a new cartel going by the name La Familia Michoacán. Shooters from the cartel opened fire in Uruapan killing and injuring tens of men and women, and as if not enough, went ahead and displayed five human heads on the floor frightening residents. The gunmen left messages that announced the arrival of the new cartel. This is just, but among the various ways, drug cartels have tried to intimidate civilians and political figures in Mexico. Recent research indicates that drug cartels use intimidation as a method to achieve their desired goals of getting attention, announcing new cartels among other goals. The essence of this paper to scrutinize the extent to which drug cartels have intimidated the government and the Mexican residents as a sure way of achieving their goals and aspirations.
