This assessment is a negotiated essay of 2,500 words, on the topic ''Special Needs'', which needs to meet the learning outcomes for the course.  This is intended to allow you to follow up a topic you are interested in, relating to research.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Recognise and understand the features of a range of research methods in academic disciplines relevant to education inquiry

2. Evaluate and analyse the appropriateness of different research paradigms and methods, and how these have developed

3. Analyse the relationships between research, education policy, and the wider political policy and social environment

4. Understand the links between research and an inclusive society

1.Approaches and methodologies

Choose about 6 recent, sound research articles on a topic of interest to you ( On Special Needs in education)
Compare and contrast different methodologies used in each article.
Having chosen your 6 articles, you need to plan the structure of your assignment, ideally, by themes. These could either be content-related-i.e.  comparing aspects of the topics of the articles, or related to approaches to research
In your assignment, you should
•    Consider the appropriateness of the methodologies chosen by the authors to address the research questions
•    Consider the methods used by the researcher. How appropriate and were these?
Plan the essay before starting it so it is clear how you want to structure it.

- Make sure the articles are as recent as possible (from 2016)
- compare the ways the research was done in all articles
- look at the methods used to conduct the research and compare them

- refer to theorists giving examples and adding references
