1) Why is JFK's inaugural speech considered powerful and compelling for the 20th century? What words resonated with you?

JFK's brought new idealistic and modern ideas that previous presidents refused to pay any attention to. He wanted an alliance for the north and south, east and west to assure a more fruitful life for all people. His words are very positive and relevant to the hardships of the times. Of course his famous quote, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." resonated with me. I know it cliche but it is such a powerful statement that is still relevant today.

2) Does MLK's speech align with our popular image of him? Why or Why not?

I do believe his speech aligns with our popular image of him or at least my image of him. He wanted honesty and equality. He wanted the constitution to mean what is written. Not just something read. His words were powerful and positive during his speech. His speech resonates that he never gave up hope and future generations should not either. He believed that greater things were coming for mankind. His speech gave me chills.

3) How did Simone's song make you feel? What is interesting about the location / environment in which she is singing this song? Why did she sing with such urgency?

Her song made me feel what she was feeling, upset and angry. The environment looked like a small building, maybe a speakeasy of some sort. It also looked as though there were many white people in the crowd as well. She may have sung with such urgency because she feels the discrimination and lies have gone on long enough and changes need to happen urgently and fast. She believes to let circumstances go by and change gradually will ultimately bring more tragedy.
