Choose two well-known people who you consider to be great communicators. Theses should be people who give speeches, so politicians or motivational speakers are good choices. Then go online and find video of each of these two people giving a speech. (Because this is an election year, Youtube should be full of choices.) You are going to write a 3 to 5 page essay discussing each speaker and referring to the video. Include links to the videos discussed in the essay.

The essay should have the following parts:

Taking each speaker in turn, describe what you see and hear the speaker doing that makes them a good communicator. Try to look for actions rather than just qualities. Example: “Charisma” - that’s a quality. What is the speaker doing that makes you feel like they have charisma? Is it their tone of voice? Their eye-contact with the audience? Etc. Watch carefully and see what you observe.
After you describe each speaker, compare and contrast them.
Give an analysis of what basic techniques the two speakers have in common and how you could learn to do that too. Example: “He seems to really know what he is talking about. He’s done his research. I can do research, too.”
