Nwoye, Okwonkwo’s firstborn son, find a hard time trying to live in harmony with his successful, powerful, and tough father. Nwoye character traits are not his father’s and he suffers many beatings for failing to act as his father instructs. This happens until Ikemefuma comes into the picture, who becomes helpful in molding Nwoye to embrace a genteel form of masculinity, a contrasting form of masculinity disliked by his father. Eventually, Nwoye is disowned by his father and finds peace after joining the missionaries in Mbanta and forever escapes the tyranny of his father. In our time, Nwoye would have long escaped his tyrant father since the society has since changed and insistence on masculinity is not as strong. This paper will evaluate how Nwoye would look like, what he would be doing, how he would be, and how he would be fairing in the current culture to find out if he would still be the same in the current context.
