Circumstances surrounding the War

The War of 1812 went down the U.S history as the war in which the United States defended its rights and honor on the Pacific Ocean trade area. As the war progressed it became a war to protect Baltimore and New Orleans (American cities) from the British attack. The war is popularly known as the second U.S war of independence which brought international respect to the country and national pride to the citizens for standing up against the British who were at that time a very powerful empire (Madison, 2012). The start of the war saw people express different views regarding its necessity. The war was strongly agitated for by the Democratic-Republicans and they persuaded the then President James Madison to go to war. The aftermath of the war had many casualties from both sides. After signing the peace treaty, the president convinced the Citizens that the war was necessary and that it was a success (Madison, 2012). This paper will analyze the War of 1812 and discus whether the U.S took advantage of the British-French war to engage in war with the British.
