Introduction

The growing positive impact of the internet has become evident across the society. Revolutionizing the political, economic and social spectrum of personal life has become outright both positively and negatively. Further, the increasing level of its adoption to manage critical infrastructures such as power grid and air traffic control has shown the significance of the internet in running various avenues. Nonetheless, the internet has paved the way for various potential threats such as phishing, financial fraud and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS).  Most specifically, DDoS is a contemporary and continuous threat to cybersecurity. Generally, DoS entails coercing a victim computer to either reset or consume its resources which has a direct impact on access to various services. Consequently, DDoS translates into ineffectiveness in the delivery of services to the legitimate users. Therefore, DDoS leads to negative implications on the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of information. Hence, this paper will examine DDoS through a multi-dimensional analysis of what it entails, challenges and potential solutions.
