DNP 825 Evaluate your personal worldview in regard to health-related values and beliefs towards the underserved populations in your community Discuss what the checklist revealed about you and where you see opportunities for further personal growth and application in your practice.

Cultural competence in healthcare is the ability of individuals, providers, or organizations to effectively deliver healthcare services that meet the social, cultural, traditional, and linguistic needs of patients irrespective of their race, color, sexual orientation, or knowledge. After reviewing the cultural competence self-assessment checklist written by Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society, (2023), I explored my cultural competence, skills, knowledge, and awareness of myself and interactions with others from different cultures. I am from a country that is grounded in cultural and traditional beliefs. In my country, we have Christians and Muslims who are always at log ahead with each other due to enforcing their religious belief on others. So, this assessment tool will assist me to recognize where I need to become more effective in working and living in a diverse environment (Cultural Competence Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society, (2023).

The term culture encompasses race, ethnicity, ancestry, beliefs, common experiences, and ways of living with each other in the world. Cultural competence also includes awareness, knowledge, characteristics, and skills shared, such as people with disabilities, Lesbian/Bisexual, Gay, and Transgender (LGBT), people with disability, religious groups, and low socioeconomic classes (Farokhzadian, et al., 2022). I am a Christian. Religion is an overly sensitive issue that even leaders are incredibly careful and thread with caution when dealing with religious issues (Cultural Competence Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society, (2023).

Evaluate your personal worldview regarding health-related values and beliefs toward the underserved populations in your community.

My personal worldview regarding health-related values and beliefs toward the underserved populations in my community is on food and nutrition. Traditionalists believe that when you give a child an egg to eat, they will grow up to become thieves. Because of this belief, in the olden days, mothers refuse to provide eggs for their young children. With improvement in health education and the spreading of awareness, young mothers are embracing the western culture and eradicating these beliefs (Mula, et al., 2023).
