DNP 840 Discuss the importance of the ethical delivery of care and regulatory reporting as it relates to the doctorally prepared advanced nurse’s practice Re: Topic 8 DQ 1

Seventy years ago, ethics in nursing centered around a duty to remain loyal and obedient to doctors; fortunately, nursing has evolved, and our responsibility for ethical behavior stresses the humane treatment of patients (Haddad & Geiger, 2022). This process includes treatment or providing care without prejudice or bias (Haddad & Geiger, 2022). The consistency of health disparities proves that the Doctor of Nursing Practice has a long way to go to achieve equality in healthcare provision (Haddad & Geiger, 2022).

For example, racial disparities are prevalent in all aspects of our society; as such, using veterans and soldiers to explain these differences proves valid (Koehlmoos et al., 2021). Minority soldiers are also subjected to inequality in medical treatment (Koehlmoos et al., 2021). According to a construct analysis measuring biases in treatment were determined due to unequal outcomes. The study included military and private treatment facilities with disparities in “surgery, trauma, opioid prescription and usage, women’s health, and others (Koehlmoos et al., 2021).”

Guidelines from the nurse’s code of ethics necessitate compassionate, respectful practice ensuring our patients maintain their dignity and self-worth (Haddad & Geiger, 2022). Hence, as the DNP continues their training, we must advocate for processes that decrease these disparities. Advocating includes using our voices to report injustices. Finally, Christ serves as a guide for our treatment of man, dying so that our sins are forgiven. His sacrifice is a reminder of our duty to treat others as we would like to be treated.
