DNP 840 Using the nursing theory and the change management theory you selected, describe how you will formulate a strategy for leading, managing, stewarding, and collaborating within the context of your DPI Project Re: Topic 7 DQ 1

Nursing theories form the basis of practice and guide nurses in offering appropriate patient care services and ensuring that patients are safe in the care environment (Smith, 2019). One of the nursing theories that can be used within the context of the DPI project is Dorothea Orem’s self-care theory which focuses on assisting others by offering them and sustaining self-care to improve functioning and effectiveness. This theory can also be used alongside a change management theory to help manage the change in the process of completing the DPI project. The use of Lewin’s theory can be in formulating a strategy for leading, managing, stewarding, and collaborating within the DPI project’s context. For example, I will purpose to take a leading role to ensure that individuals in the organization embrace the proposed change. Indeed, the change also has to be managed. Therefore, I will apply appropriate strategies to ensure that the proposed change is managed through Lewin’s three stages of change: unfreezing, change, and refreezing (Hussain et al., 2018).

The implementation of the change will also need collaboration; therefore, by using Orem’s theory, I will lead the patients to realize the deficiency they possess in terms of appropriate care of diabetes to trigger a collaboration which will ensure that they use the proposed strategies to help them have improved patient care outcomes (Abd El-Aal & El-Nagar, 2018). Therefore, it is important to note that the strategy will be formulated by reaching out to both the patients and the nursing staff. As such, bringing the patients and nurses on board will support coalition building as we will be able to work as coalitions with the sole purpose of improving the health outcomes of patients living with diabetes. The strategy will also support health advocacy as it will focus on sensitizing the patients on the need to be involved in the process of disease management and encourage the nursing staff to help them in such processes.
