Nigeria Nigeria is among Africa’s largest countries located on the western side of the continent. The country is home to a number of people of various kingdoms emerging from the different tribes of the people of Nigeria. Essentially, Nigeria was colonized by the British when they set out to occupy the African region. Lagos was invaded by the British in 1851 and was fully annexed ten years later. Similar to other African countries, Nigeria put up a fight for its independence from the British rule through armed warfare. The struggle paid off in 1963 when Nigeria was granted independence to manage and rule itself from the British Administration (Martin, 2005). However, the formation of the first independent government was not as easy as it was met with obstacles of treason and finally a coup de tat.
